Iranian state television had earlier reported that a "hostile aircraft" was intercepted and brought down in the Jam area of Bushehr province early Friday. The report, citing Jam County governor Masoud Tangestani, claimed Iranian air defence systems had successfully targeted the aircraft.

The reported incident comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following recent military exchanges and ongoing diplomatic efforts related to ceasefire negotiations in the region.

Scott Bessent noted that this wasn't achieved by any other administration and hoped that the US could 'commit' Iran to renounce its nuclear programme as the ceasefire negotiations continue.
