A grass that was once promoted for agricultural use has since become a persistent invasive plant across parts of the southern United States. Today, torpedograss is found in wetlands, marshes, canals, lakes and riverbanks, where it spreads rapidly, competes with native vegetation and becomes difficult to manage once established.

Plants introduced with the best of intentions do not always remain where they are first planted. Across parts of the United States, one such example is sericea lespedeza, a hardy perennial legume that was introduced primarily during the 1930s and 1940s for forage and soil conservation.

A gunman killed three people and injured seven others at an In-N-Out restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, local police said. An off-duty officer and a bystander returned fire, preventing further casualties. Authorities are currently investigating the suspect's motive.
