Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are under a yellow alert due to dense fog caused by stable atmospheric conditions, weak solar heating, high moisture levels, and low wind speeds. The fog is expected to continue until December 27, causing cold day conditions and worsened by pollution. Relief is only expected with an increase in wind speed.

The Gurugram district administration has advised private offices to allow work from home from December 22, 2025, to curb pollution amid worsening air quality. The move follows the implementation of GRAP Stage IV across Delhi-NCR by the Commission for Air Quality Management.

Air pollution in India has been grabbing global attention with the Air Quality Index (AQI) surging over 400 in the Delhi-NCR region. However, major cities, including Mumbai, are also battling air pollution, with several residents raising the issue on social media.
