A heavy spell of rainfall and strong surface winds hit Delhi and the surrounding NCR regions on Thursday, offering much-needed relief to residents while triggering localized waterlogging and traffic advisories across the capital.

The IMD has sounded orange alert (very heavy rainfall) in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. In Palghar, however, the weather is expected to turn severe in the next 24 hours.

In Palghar, which is predicted to get extremely heavy rain amid an IMD red alert, all schools, colleges and anganwadis were instructed to remain closed on Thursday.

MUMBAI: Mumbai remained under an orange alert for the third consecutive day on Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places along with gusty winds of 60-70kmph.

Heavy rain is expected in Ahmedabad, Anand, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Botad till July 26, while the rest of the state is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall.

There will be high monsoon activity over most parts of India for at least a week, according to the IMD, which predicts heavy rains and thunderstorms along with extremely heavy rains in isolated parts of several Indian states. Parts of India from the Himalayan region to the Konkan coast, central India, and northeast India could be affected by rains through July 28, making authorities issue a warning about flooding and landslides.

The IMD has also warned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over several states in northwest, west and east India over the next few days. Meanwhile, flood conditions have worsened in Assam, while heavy rain continues to disrupt normal life in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The summer vacation for all Government and recognized private schools in the Kashmir Division and Winter Zones of Jammu Division has been extended till July 26, 2026.

On Thursday, Delhi experienced humid weather with a minimum temperature around 27degC. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated potential light rain or drizzle in isolated areas and forecasted a maximum temperature of about 33degC., Delhi News, Times Now

Rain with thundershowers has been forecast in the districts of Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik in North Maharashtra. A yellow alert has been issued for rain in these districts.
