In the alleged disproportionate assets case against Congress leader and the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, the Supreme Court on Monday asked the lawyer representing the central investigating agencies, "If the matter was that serious, why did the probe agencies keep quiet?" The apex court also asked the Allahabad High Court not to proceed with the case against Gandhi.

Prashant Kishor took oath as Bankipur MLA at the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Monday. He made a historic electoral debut on August 3, winning the Bankipur bypoll. The Centre made an oral assurance while introducing the Bill to increase Lok Sabha seats that each State's share would increase by 50% on a pro-rata basis. However, the increase could weaken the Rajya Sabha's role as a check on the lower House, while the Lok Sabha's limited sitting days would leave MPs with less time to raise issues
