NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court, in a judgment dated July 29, held that lift manufacturers, maintenance companies and building owners can all be held responsible if a person dies or is injured in a lift accident. The court said companies responsible for maintaining lifts have a high duty of care towards passengers and cannot ignore known defects.

Six of the 20 ministers being inducted had served in the previous Siddaramaiah government. However, several senior legislators from that Cabinet, including HC Mahadevappa, HK Patil, Dinesh Gundu Rao, K Venkatesh, MC Sudhakar and Laxmi Hebbalkar, have not found a place.
