Congress leader D K Shivakumar was sworn in as Karnataka's 34th chief minister on Wednesday. The swearing-in ceremony at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru was attended by senior Congress leaders, chief ministers from Congress-ruled states, religious heads and other dignitaries. Shivakumar took the oath while carrying a copy of the Constitution of India, a gesture that drew attention during the ceremony. Senior Congress leader G Parameshwara also took oath and is set to serve as deputy chief minister in the new government. A prominent Dalit leader, Parameshwara previously served as Home Minister in the Siddaramaiah-led administration and was Deputy Chief Minister in the Congress-JD(S) coalition government headed by H D Kumaraswamy between 2018 and 2019. He took the oath in the name of Dr B R Ambedkar.
