India formally marked 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh on Survey of India maps, including Longju, Thag La, Dzo La and Jairampur. The move comes amid China's repeated attempts to rename places in the state, which Beijing calls Zangnan.

Among the 27 locations identified on the official map is Long Ju, situated along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), which was one of the earliest flashpoints between India and China in 1959 when Chinese forces entered the area.

NEW DELHI: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on Saturday rejected reports of Chinese military encroachment in the state and said that the Army was effectively patrolling and safeguarding the territory.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the move aims to bring greater clarity and awareness among the public, with the list comprising 21 land areas and four passes.

GUWAHATI/NEW DELHI: The updated Survey of India map has assigned standard place and feature names to 27 Arunachal Pradesh sites, including four mountain passes and a high-altitude lake, as part of the Union government's strategy to remove any ambiguity on demarcation of territory and counter China's repeated attempts to rename places on this side of the McMahon Line.
