As speculation grows over unrest within the Trinamool Congress, veteran actor-politician and TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha has come out strongly in support of Mamata Banerjee. Speaking to NDTV, Sinha described Mamata Banerjee as a "street fighter" who built the Trinamool Congress through years of struggle and determination. He said the party was not handed to her as a legacy but was created through hard political battles that eventually ended decades of Left rule in West Bengal.

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik has resigned from the Upper House and the party. He joins two other MPs who resigned recently. Baraik stated he wants to work with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Meanwhile, Shatrughan Sinha and Babul Supriyo reasserted their loyalty to Mamata Banerjee. Three consecutive Assembly election wins built her legacy and four straight Lok Sabha polls - in which the Trinamool was the single-largest party - cemented it. But on Thursday the Trinamool lurched deeper into an existential crisis after party veteran Kalyan Banerjee ripped into her nephew and second-in-command, Abhishek Banerjee. "It is a great humiliation to me," Kalyan Banerjee - one of Mamata Banerjee's staunchest allies - fumed. "His arrogant attitude has destroyed the party... He should understand that."

He also criticized Abhishek Banerjee for arrogance and disrespect towards senior party members. The development follows a CID investigation and Abhishek Banerjee receiving interim protection from coercive action.
