NEW DELHI: The Calcutta high court, in an order dated July 30, held that the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act cannot be used to evict tenants. The court said disputes between landlords and tenants must be decided by a civil court under tenancy laws and that a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) has no power to order the eviction of a tenant under the Senior Citizens Act.

In a statement, Stalin alleged that the government had used the police action against Udhayanidhi to shift focus away from the Cauvery water dispute and the proposed Mekedatu dam project.

CHENNAI: The Madras high court on Tuesday directed the Tamil Nadu Police to release DMK MLA and leader of opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin after questioning him in connection with a case over his alleged remarks linked to actor Trisha. The court also asked the DMK leader to cooperate with the investigation whenever required.

The High Court also directed the DMK leader to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. The case stems from an FIR registered over his alleged derogatory remarks about Chief Minister Vijay and actor Trisha.
