Rain lashed several parts of the national capital on Saturday, bringing relief from scorching heat and a pleasant change in weather, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red and orange warnings for thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds across multiple states over the next two to three hours.

Delhi and its adjoining areas breathed a sigh of relief on Saturday evening as heavy rains and thunderstorms brought an end to the extreme spell of heatwave. Videos on social media showed intense rainfall in parts of Delhi.

The weather department has also placed the region under a yellow alert for Sunday, indicating the possibility of similar conditions, while maximum temperatures are expected to fall further to around 34-36 degrees Celsius by Saturday.

The red warning in Delhi was for "severe thunderstorm" with maximum surface winds of 62-87 kms/hr and hail, along with dust storm as well as rain. | India News
