While the advancing rains are welcome news for parched regions and travellers eager to experience the country's celebrated monsoon landscapes, the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also brings a word of caution: several popular tourist destinations are expected to witness heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms and even heatwave conditions.

Temperatures are forecast to fall by 4-6degC from June 12, with the IMD projecting maximums of 35-37degC on June 12 and 13. By June 14, temperatures are expected to edge back up to 37-39degC under partly cloudy skies.
