Reacting to the elevation of Sunetra Pawar, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and wife of late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, State Minister Ashish Shelar and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader expressed confidence that she would continue to work for the development of the state, as late Ajit Pawar used to do.

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchand Pawar) MLA Rohit Pawar on Saturday congratulated on taking oath as the first woman Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal does not anticipate a merger between the two Nationalist Congress Party factions. He noted the NCP, part of the Mahayuti government, has performed well. Goyal stated the NCP leadership is with Ajit Pawar and now Sunetra Pawar. Praful Patel is the national president.

"Respected Ajit Dada gave a guiding principle of life for farmers, workers, women, youth, and the marginalized throughout his life. Today, while taking on the responsibility of the Deputy Chief Minister with a sense of duty, staying committed to the ideals of 'Shiv-Shahu-Phule-Ambedkar' and carrying forward his legacy of thoughts, my heart is truly overwhelmed," she wrote.

Governor Acharya Devvrat administered the oath in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

While Sharad Pawar has pressed pause on NCP factions' merger, NCP leaders say it may still happen, but Sunetra has to first take charge decisively so that it does not happen on Pawar's terms.

"Sunetra Pawar was always with Ajit Dada during his tough times, and today she has taken such a big responsibility...This is a very big thing that a woman has become the Deputy CM of the state," he said.
