The monsoon had reached Kerala on June 4, several days later than its normal onset date of June 1. However, it then progressed swiftly, covering large parts of the western coast by June 5 before advancing into Maharashtra on June 6. But will the monsoon reach Delhi on time?

Shimla witnessed a hailstorm, while areas such as Jubberhatti, Bhuntar, Sundernagar, Kangra, Jot, Palampur and Kufri received thunderstorms and lightning from Thursday evening.

Following significant downpours in Nusrulgunj and Itarsi, the weather department has issued fresh alerts for lightning, 40 kmph winds, and scattered rainfall across multiple divisions in Madhya Pradesh.

The southwest monsoon has advanced into Maharashtra on schedule after making its onset over Kerala on June 4, raising expectations that it could reach Delhi close to its normal arrival date later this month. The monsoon arrived in Kerala three days later than its usual onset date of June 1 and nearly a week behind the India Meteorological Department's earlier forecast. However, it has since gathered pace, rapidly covering large parts of the western coast, including Goa, before entering Maharashtra. According to the IMD's latest monsoon progression map, the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Delhi and the National Capital Region between June 25 and June 30.

Heavy rain is expected to continue through the week in Karnataka as the southwest monsoon advances further into the country.
