Ahead of Phase 2 of the West Bengal Assembly elections, a major security alert has emerged after the recovery of around 100 crude bombs in South 24 Parganas' Bhangar area. The Election Commission of India has ordered that all cases related to bomb-making and explosive recovery be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), signalling a major escalation in poll security measures. The bombs were recovered during a police raid based on specific intelligence inputs. With polling just days away, authorities have intensified surveillance, security deployment, and area domination exercises across vulnerable constituencies. The EC has also warned police officials of strict action in case of any lapse in maintaining law and order or preventing voter intimidation. |
