Monsoon Tracker Live Updates: Heavy monsoon showers swept across several parts of the country on Sunday (July 5, 2026), with Mumbai witnessing severe disruption, while weather authorities issued alerts for Kerala, Odisha and Jharkhand. Delhi also experienced widespread rainfall as monsoon activity gathered pace. Mumbai bore the brunt of the spell after intense overnight rain led to the suspension of runway operations at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for about an hour. Official figures showed that several parts of the city received more than 200 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, while a few locations recorded nearly 300 mm. In eastern India, a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal strengthened into a depression, prompting Odisha to place all its districts on high alert. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather system is expected to cross the north Odisha coast between Chandbali and Digha within the next day, bringing heavy rainfall to Odisha and neighbouring West Bengal. Kerala also remained under the influence of active monsoon conditions, with widespread showers reported across most parts of the state. The IMD issued orange and yellow alerts for multiple districts. Meanwhile, Jharkhand has been placed under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across all 24 districts from July 6 to July 9.
