KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday interim protection from coercive action to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in a signature forgery case linked to the party

Abhishek Banerjee has been ordered to appear before the probe agency today in the Signature forgery case; however, the court granted him protection from coercive action for three weeks.

A US tourist was allegedly sexually assaulted at a homestay in Karnataka's Kodagu district in April.

The court also observed that investigators could not compel him to produce the disputed document and must obtain it through legal procedures if required.

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee must appear before the state CID by 6 pm today. The Calcutta High Court granted him interim protection from coercive action for three weeks. The probe concerns alleged forgery of signatures of two party MLAs. Banerjee's counsel informed the court about his arrival in Kolkata. The matter will be heard again in two weeks.

Banerjee's counsel, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, informed the court that his client was returning to Kolkata from Delhi and would be able to comply with the summons issued by the CID.
