Noting that there was no sanction to prosecute leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Gandhi for his remarks against V D Savarkar, Supreme Court Friday quashed proceedings against him initiated by a Lucknow court. Rahul had allegedly described Savarkar as a "receiver of pension from Britishers" and "a servant of Britishers" at a news conference in 2022.

Taking cognisance of two BJP MPs' complaints against Rahul Gandhi for levelling "defamatory" allegations against home minister Amit Shah, Lok Sabha secretariat has sought the leader of the opposition's reply to Speaker Om Birla by Aug 28. The MPs, Sanjay Jaiswal and Anurag Thakur, had filed separate complaints to Birla, accusing Rahul of violating parliamentary rules during his speech in the House on July 30.
