A Parliamentary Standing Committee (the Committee on Public Undertakings), reviewing the performance of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), has flagged that India's domestic uranium production meets only about 30 per cent of the country's requirement for its Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs). As India's nuclear fleet expands, PHWR fuel needs could touch around 5,400 tonnes of natural uranium oxide (U3O8) a year.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution against delimitation, urging the Union govt to permanently freeze Lok Sabha strength at 543 and implement 33% reservation for women within the existing strength from the next Lok Sabha election. The principal opposition DMK backed the resolution while AIADMK, PMK, BJP and DMK ally DMDK opposed it during the voice vote.

Earlier in the day, the Opposition maintained that it is not interested in listening to Amit Shah's 'lecture', and demanded his resignation.

Kiren Rijiju asked that how can Parliament function if there is no discussion and added that the government cannot present its views or respond in Parliament if the Opposition does not want to listen.
