Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan was made on a budget of just Rs 7 crore and went on to become one of Indian television's biggest success stories. Nearly four decades later, Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayanam is being mounted on a reported budget of Rs 4,000 crore.

Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita.

The Mahasangh further claimed that it had received information suggesting that Nitesh Tiwari's directorial venture could include scenes capable of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
